  • Chincoteague Island is located on the eastern shore of Virginia. The Island is measured to be about 9.1 square miles. Although the Island has a population of approximately 2,941 people, Chincoteague attracts tourists all throughout the year from all over the eastern coast. It's one of my favorite places to eat, sleep, fish, boat, and go on adventures.

The Assateague Lighthouse Located on the Island is one of the more popular tourist attractions. It was built in 1867 and is controlled by the US Coast Guard.

The wild ponies that live on Assateague National Wild Refuge land have a unique story linking them to Chincoteague Island and each year the Chincoteague volunteer Fire Company host a "Pony Swim" that auctions off Wild Ponies to raise money for the company and the Island.

The Ponies are thought to be the offspring of survivors from a Spanish galleon that sank during a storm off of the east coast while it was on its way to Spain in 1750.
